Artist Statement - Groundline

These drawings are intimist in character, prompting a close attention to detail. In this series shapes are anchored or drift above, a single low horizon. The narrow focus opens up a wide range of perceptions and associations. This horizontal plane of reference is owing to my recent interest in the art of Isamu Noguchi. Whether working as a sculptor, garden or set designer, he often asserted a deliberate baseline - a primal ground plane serving as a counterweight, or spatial departure point for further forms and contours.
